CWC Women's Basketball To Play in 1st Home Playoff Game in 10 Years After Thrilling Overtime Victory

RIVERTON, WY – The Central Wyoming College Rustlers women's basketball team experienced a week of extremes in Region 9 play, rebounding from a difficult home loss to Western Wyoming with a gritty overtime road win against Laramie County Community College.

Western Wyoming Takes Control at Rustler Gym

Earlier in the week on February 28, the Rustlers hosted Western Wyoming Community College in a tough conference matchup. Despite a strong effort on the boards, CWC struggled to find its shooting rhythm, falling 77-47.

The Mustangs used a powerful 46-point second half to pull away, outscoring the Rustlers in the paint 44-28. Aliyah Newton again led the Rustlers' scoring with 18 points, while Laura Ring and Sophie Wilkinson each battled for 10 rebounds.

Notable Stats:

The Rustlers showed resilience at the free-throw line late in the game, finishing with a 66.7% clip for the contest.

Rustlers Outlast LCCC in Overtime Thriller

On March 2, the Rustlers traveled to Cheyenne for a back-and-forth battle that required an extra period to decide. CWC showcased remarkable offensive efficiency, shooting 56.1% from the floor to secure an 81-76 victory over the Golden Eagles.

Aliyah Newton delivered a career-defining performance, exploding for a game-high 35 points while adding 10 rebounds and 6 assists. Newton's dominance in the paint and at the free-throw line anchored the Rustlers through the high-pressure overtime period.

Key Performers:

The Rustlers' defense was equally vital, out-rebounding LCCC 44-36 and limiting the Golden Eagles to 32.1% shooting from the field.

With the victory against LCCC, the CWC women's basketball team is set to host North Platte Community College in the 1st round of Region 9 playoffs on Friday, March 6th at 5:00 PM at Rustler Gymnasium.
