CWC Women's Basketball Face Mixed Results in Recent Clashes on the Road
The Central Wyoming College Women's Basketball team experienced both a victory and a defeat in their recent away games against formidable opponents. The team first faced North Platte Community College on November 21, at McDonald-Belton Gym, where they clinched a win, and then encountered McCook Community College on November 22, in McCook, NE, resulting in a loss.
In the game against North Platte, the Rustlers displayed resilience, recovering from a slight lag at the end of the first half with a halftime score of 30-33. Notable performances included Lucy Howard, who scored 18 points, and Izabelle Moyes, who contributed significantly with 12 points including a crucial three-pointer that shifted the lead back to Central Wyoming. Aliyah Newton was also crucial with her top assist contributions, leading the team to a 73-65 victory in a robust final quarter.
Defense played a critical role throughout the games, with Laura Ring making a notable block that set the tone for the second half. The teamwork and strategic gameplay demonstrated by the Rustlers emphasized their ability to overcome early deficits, particularly demonstrated in their rally to lead the third period by six points against North Platte.
However, the terrain shifted the following day against McCook Community College. The Rustlers were narrowly behind throughout the game, ending the first half trailing at 27-30. Despite efforts led by Moyes, who also emerged as the top performer in this game with 12 points, Central Wyoming couldn't turn the tide and fell 52-65.
Looking ahead, the Rustlers have set their sights on their next encounter against Western Nebraska Community College on November 28, in Cheyenne, WY. As the team regroups, the focus is undoubtedly on harnessing their strengths and addressing areas that needed improvement from the previous games to ensure a better outcome in the upcoming challenges.
