Northwest College Pulls Away in Second Half to Edge Out Rustlers
The Central Wyoming College Rustlers men's basketball team faced a tough road test on February 18, falling to Northwest College 61-53 after a decisive second-half surge by the Trappers.
Rustlers Take Early Lead
The Rustlers jumped out to a strong start at Cabre Gym, heading into the locker room with a 30-25 lead at halftime. CWC's early success was anchored by efficient shooting from the charity stripe, as the team converted 88.9% of its free throws in the first half.
However, the momentum shifted after the break. Northwest College ignited for 36 second-half points while holding the Rustlers to just 23, securing the comeback victory for the home team.
Individual Standouts
Despite the loss, the Rustlers saw significant contributions from several key players:
-
Jordan Peel: Led the team with 18 points, playing all 40 minutes of the contest.
-
Camrin Gulley: Put up 9 points and grabbed 6 rebounds.
-
Tyler Jette: Contributed 8 points and secured 5 rebounds.
-
Isaac Patik: Was active across the board with 8 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 steals.
Defensive and Bench Play
The game was a defensive battle, with both teams shooting under 45% from the field. A critical difference came from the depth of the benches; Northwest College's reserves outscored the Rustlers' bench 21-6. CWC remained competitive by forcing turnovers, leading to 16 points off turnovers, but it wasn't enough to overcome Northwest's second-half efficiency.
The Rustlers will look to bounce back in their final stretch of Region 9 regular season conferences games this week, at Cheyenne on Feb. 25, and home versus Western Wyoming Feb. 28.
