Ring Leads Rustler Women's Basketball to First Region 9 Playoff Victory in Over 10 Years

RIVERTON, WY – The Rustler women's basketball team etched their spot in Central Wyoming College athletics history, delivering their first playoff win since 2016 in a commanding 71-58 victory over North Platte Community College on March 6.

Ring's Scoring Masterclass

Sophomore standout Laura Ring put on an offensive clinic, leading all scorers with 25 points. Ring displayed elite efficiency from the field, shooting 8-of-14 (57.1%), while also anchoring the team's rebounding effort with 8 boards.

Balanced Attack and Defensive Grit

While Ring led the charge, the Rustlers benefited from a well-rounded performance across the roster:

  • Lexie Kesler provided a spark from the perimeter, contributing 13 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists.

  • Sophie Wilkinson nearly notched a double-double, dominating the paint with 12 points and 9 rebounds.

  • Aliyah Newton facilitated the offense effectively, leading the team with 8 assists.

The Rustlers' defense was relentless throughout the night, holding North Platte to just 30.4% shooting from the field and forced 16 turnovers.

Dominant Performance by the Numbers

CWC's offensive flow was evident in their shooting percentages, as the team finished with a strong 38.5% clip from the floor and converted on free-throws late to stave off the Knights. The Rustlers were particularly effective at moving the ball, recording 17 assists on 20 made field goals.

With this victory, the Rustlers advance into the quarterfinals of the women's Region 9 basketball tournament, where they'll face the South #1 seed Lamar College on Thursday, March 12 at 2:30 PM in Rock Springs, WY.
