Rustlers Split Week with Dominant Home Win and Narrow Road Loss

RIVERTON, WY – The Central Wyoming College Rustlers women's basketball team continued their Region 9 campaign this week, securing a commanding double-digit victory at home against Eastern Wyoming before dropping a hard-fought road battle to Western Wyoming.

Western Wyoming Edges Rustlers in Rock Springs

The Rustlers traveled to Rock Springs on February 11 for a tightly contested matchup against Western Wyoming Community College. Despite a strong second quarter that saw CWC narrow the halftime marigin, the Mustangs rallied in the second half to hand the Rustlers a 63-57 defeat.

Laura Ring again led the scoring effort with 18 points and 9 rebounds, while Sophie Wilkinson delivered a powerful performance in the paint with 15 points and 10 rebounds.

Notable Stats:

The game was a back-and-forth affair with CWC out-rebounding the Mustangs 32-30, but Western Wyoming's 81.3% shooting from the free-throw line allowed them to pull away in the final frame.

Rustlers Stifle Eastern Wyoming in 60-49 Victory

On February 14, the Rustlers put on a defensive clinic at Rustler Gym, holding Eastern Wyoming College to just 25% shooting from the floor to earn a 60-49 win.

CWC took control early, ending the first quarter with a 14-5 lead, and relied on a deep bench that outscored the Lancers' reserves 21-7. Laura Ring anchored the Rustlers with a double-double, tallying 17 points and 11 rebounds, while the team connected on 11 three-pointers to stretch the floor.

Key Performers:

The Rustlers' efficiency at the charity stripe was a deciding factor late, as they shot 81.8% from the free-throw line for the game.

Central Wyoming will look to secure a home Region 9 play-in game this week as they head Powell on February 18 to take on Northwest College.
