Central Wyoming College Rodeo Shows Championship Potential at CSU Competition
The Central Wyoming College Rustlers rodeo team continued their spring campaign with a strong showing at the Colorado State University Rodeo, held April 3–5. The men's team captured 3rd place overall in a weekend defined by individual victories and a grit-fueled performance in the arena.
Individual Standouts and Average Winners
The Rustlers' roughstock athletes were the story of the weekend, securing top honors in the average standings. Eian Smith delivered a powerhouse performance in Bareback Riding, taking 2nd in the long go and ultimately winning 1st in the Average. He was joined at the top by Chaz Dewey, who showcased his explosive style by winning 1st in the long go before securing a 4th place Average finish.
In the Bull Riding, Colton Clymer remained a model of consistency. Clymer rode to a 2nd place finish in both the long go and the Average, keeping him firmly in the hunt for a postseason berth.
The success extended to the timed-event and women's arenas:
-
Foster Krempin (Tie Down Roping): Placed 6th in the long go and finished a strong 5th in the Average.
-
Maylee Nordstrom (Barrel Racing): Earned a 10th place finish against a fast field of competitors.
-
Cole Kreikemeier (Steer Wrestling): Secured a top-ten finish, placing 10th overall.
Coach's Perspective
Head Coach Schrock expressed high praise for the team's trajectory as they look toward the College National Finals Rodeo.
"To have four out of the seven guys on our team to be sitting in contentions and still in the driver's seat to punch their tickets to the CNFR shows how much talent we have on this team," said Coach Schrock. "We had a lot of individual wins this weekend although not all of them showed up in the short round. I am proud of each of them for having the mental strength and attitude to work through some adversity. We have a weekend off before leaving for Casper, April 17th-19th".
The Road to Casper
With several athletes now positioned to qualify for the national stage, the Rustlers will utilize their upcoming bye week to rest and refine their techniques. CWC will return to action for one of the biggest events of the spring at the Casper College Rodeo in Casper, WY, from April 17th–19th.
