Central Wyoming College Beach Volleyball Claims 4th Place in Historic National Championship Debut
The Central Wyoming College beach volleyball team concluded a historic season with a podium finish at the 2026 NJCAA Beach Volleyball National Championship. Competing at the John Hunt Sand Volleyball Complex from April 30 to May 2, the Rustlers battled through a grueling three-day schedule to secure 4th place in the nation.
The Path Through Pool Play
The tournament opened on Thursday with a test against elite competition. After a 3-0 loss in their opening match to Palm Beach State College, the Rustlers showed their trademark resilience in the afternoon session. CWC bounced back with a dominant 3-1 victory over Richard Bland College, a win that proved crucial for their tournament standing.
Friday's pool play presented further challenges as the Rustlers faced high-ranking opponents. Despite a 3-0 loss to Lake-Sumter State College and a hard-fought 3-1 battle against regional rival Trinidad State College, the Rustlers' aggregate performance throughout the week earned them the No. 4 seed in the Championship Bracket.
Championship Saturday
Entering the final day of competition as one of the top four teams in the country, the Rustlers faced off against top-seeded Palm Beach State in the semifinals. While CWC fell 3-0 in the opening round of the bracket, they advanced to the 3rd place game to face Mesa Community College.
In a high-intensity finale, Mesa secured a 3-0 victory, leaving the Rustlers with a 4th place overall finish.
Finishing in the top four nationally represents a major milestone for the CWC volleyball program. The Rustlers return to Riverton with national hardware and a strong foundation as they look toward the future of the beach volleyball program.
