The Central Wyoming College Rustler Volleyball team kicked off the year at a tournament in Laramie this past Friday. The Rustlers competed against Northeast Junior College, Western Nebraska Community College, Laramie County Community College and Eastern Wyoming Community College in a scrimmage format tournament. The Rustlers worked through the normal early season kinks and split with every team at the tournament. Coach Gallard was able to play all of the Rustlers at the tournament and was pleased with the excitement and enthusiasm of the girls. Steve Barlow, Athletic Director for Central Wyoming College, stated "The girls have been practicing hard for two weeks and it was good for them to get on the court and compete against quality teams early in the season. It has been exciting so far to watch Coach Gallard in her new role, and interact and engage with her student athletes".
On Saturday, the Rustlers faced Western Wyoming Community College in a best of five match. The girls showed some fear in the beginning as Western came out early and jumped to a 12-4 lead. The Rustlers settled in and worked hard on every play and was able to defeat Western in three matches 27-25, 25-21, 25-20. Coach Gallard stated, "We had two players with 12 and 11 kills. We are aware that we have a big season in front of us, but this is a great start for Central and the player's confidence. They did well and stuck together through some challenges and came out on top. I am very proud of them and we have a lot of work to do!"
